In 2021, an impressive chess event was organized by Shenzhen Road Primary School in the Liaocheng High-tech Zone, Shandong Province, China. Over a thousand primary school students participated, playing chess on a playground arranged to resemble a giant chessboard.
This was the second annual competition held by the school, aimed at enhancing the intellectual abilities and competitive skills of the children while providing them with a platform for chess exchange program.
"Chess activities not only help to develop children's intelligence and improve their thinking skills but also cultivate important qualities such as tenacity, unity, and the courage to face challenges," said Song Demin, principal of Shenzhen Road Primary School in the High-tech Zone, during the opening speech.
Principal Song mentioned that the school-based chess course has been offered for three years. With a metaphor, he expressed hope that every student will eventually advance like a chess pawn who gets promoted to a queen, achieving their highest potential.
